Maiken Foods AS enters into a lease agreement for Atlantic Sapphire’s land-based aquaculture facility in Denmark.

Oslo, January 31, 2025 – Maiken Foods AS, headquartered at Caspar Storms vei 16, Oslo, has  signed an agreement with Atlantic Sapphire Denmark AS to lease their land-based fish  farming facility in Langsand, 6960 Hvide Sande, Denmark. Additionally, Maiken Foods has  secured an option to purchase 100% of the shares in Atlantic Sapphire Denmark AS.

A Milestone for Maiken Foods

“This marks the beginning of our own project with proprietary technology,” says Arve  Gravdal, CEO of Maiken Foods AS.

“During the first half of the year, we will demonstrate that we can achieve stable growth of  large salmon all the way to market size. Our method combines the best aspects of traditional  net-pen technology with the benefits of land-based production while eliminating the  biological and environmental challenges associated with both approaches.”

A New Standard in Aquaculture Technology

Maiken Foods has developed innovative and cost-effective technology that ensures low fish  densities and reduces biological risks. A newly developed water treatment unit simplifies  recirculating technology. “We have reduced investment costs by approximately two-thirds  compared to traditional recirculating systems,” explains Gravdal. “This allows us to lower  fish densities accordingly while maintaining a sustainable economy.” Another advantage is  that the fish tanks operate independently of one another, preventing disease spread and  allowing for new, flexible farming strategies.

The Road Ahead

When the first tank is operational this spring, Maiken Foods plans to invite investors to a  demonstration of the technology. At the same time, the company will seek binding bids for  tanks of various sizes. The goal is to document stable, high-quality production and prove that  large-scale land-based salmon farming is both feasible and sustainable.

A Solution for the Future

The technology meets modern standards for sustainability, fish welfare, and environmental  responsibility—factors that both green investment funds and traditional funds now prioritize.
